Putting Your CV Online: Get Found by Jamaican Employers
Posting your CV online lets employers find you, even while you are busy with other things. But an online CV works differently from one you hand over in person. A few adjustments will help you get noticed and keep you safe.
Use the right keywords. Employers search for words that match their job titles and skills. Include the job titles you want and the specific skills you have, such as "customer service", "QuickBooks" or "electrical installation".
Write a strong headline and summary. These are often the first lines employers see. Make them clear and specific, for example "Bilingual customer service agent, HEART/NSTA Trust Level 2, available for shift work in St James."
List your qualifications clearly. Name your CSEC/CAPE subjects, HEART/NSTA Trust certificates and any UTech or UWI qualifications so they show up in searches.
Protect your personal information. Do not post your TRN, date of birth, bank details or full home address. A phone number, email address and your parish are enough.
Keep it up to date. Refresh your CV regularly. Recently updated CVs often appear higher in searches.
Use a professional photo only if the site asks for one, and keep profiles on social media professional too, since employers often look.
Beware of scams. A real employer will not ask you to pay for a job, training or a uniform before you are hired. If an offer seems too good to be true, check the company before you share any more details.
Do not rely on one site. Use a few trusted platforms and keep applying directly as well.
Splash Jamaica has just relaunched, and posting jobs is currently free for employers, so it is a good time to be visible.
