We explain here what you will need to do as a minimum if you wish to work in Jamaica and you are coming from another CARICOM* member state. You should still contact the relevant authorities to verify the process that you will need to follow.

If you are a graduate of the UWI, you will require:

A certificate of recognition from the University of the West Indies
2 copies of degree certificates, one of which must be the original
3 certified passport sized photographs signed be [a Notary Public]
3 passport sized photographs certified by a Notary Public,
Justice of the Peace, Minister of Religion, or Inspector of Police
4 certified copies of your birth certificate

If you are a graduate of the UWI, or are married with a family, you will also need:

A certified copy of your marriage certificate
Certified copies of your children's birth certificates

These documents must be sent to the Jamaican Ministry of Labour and Social Security by your employer. Processing should take about 2 to 3 weeks.

All Other Non-Jamaican CARICOM Nationals

The following are required:

3 work permit application forms. These will be obtained by your
  Jamaican employer.
3 bank vouchers for processing fees. These will be obtained by
  your employer.
3 certified passport sized photographs certified by a Notary Public,

A letter from your employer including particulars of the job offer.
Details of any police record from your country of residence.
Your employer will provide with your application an Employers'
Tax Compliance Certificate, company and business registration certificates
A processing fee. This should normally be paid for by your employer.

Once completed these forms must be returned to the Jamaican Ministry of Labour and Social Security by your employer for processing. Processing should take about 4 to 6 weeks. The processing fee must be paid to any branch of the National Commercial Bank in Jamaica by your employer. A work permit can then be made available.
